if the pilot's good, see, I mean, if he's really..sharp, he can barrel that baby in so low [he spreads his arms like wings and laughs],

you oughtta see it sometime, it's a sight. A big plane like a '52. VRROOM! There's jet exhaust, fryin' chickens in the barnyard.

Range of the rockets is 0-1200m. Now go have fun at those low tiers! :)

Cheers!

The range of each rocket is variable. Unfortunately the distances seem to change every couple of patches along with the blast radius. I suggest you go into the training room and target a ship. Launch one at a time from a distance and find out what range they hit the ship. Do it several times to get a good idea.

thank you psicko and patton...tiers 1-4 were ok one i got the tsh-3...as a matter of fact, the pilot in the il-2 has been trained on tsh-1..tsh-3..bsh-2, and now il-2..hes got 2 skills...and less than 4% from a third...the tg for the il-s mod..is at like..20% to 3rd skill and hes a carrry over from the tsh-3. now that im in tier 5, im seeing challenge, which is good.

as for wanting to know about the rockets...just trying to decide whether to use them as ground killers, or use them for defense against pilots.

secondary query---with this range fluctuation, should i use them as 'shotgun' style, i.e., close range arty style on attacking planes? or should i just use them as sparklers on ground targets solely

I do realize my games are almost tandem with my posts....but in that defense, i am the SOLE active member of my clan...since i was recruited to be honest, so i cant garner information in that realm, pilots wont answer questions in game, so that cuts out that...this is my only recourse left for ACTUAL information from the pilots...thats not over 3 or 4 years old....or out patched by 4 patch updates.

The range fluctuation I gave is the distances at which they can be effective. They explode at 1200m but if they hit something before then they will also explode.

As a new pilot, rockets are best used against ground targets. Bombs are also a good defensive measure. Go in the training room and practice rocket distances on ships, also practice rocket kills on ga's, and practice bomb kills on an enemy fighter.

Rockets don't have a set distance that they blow up. It is a random timer. If I recall correctly the il2 has rs132 rockets. I've had blast radius kills from 850 meters and up to 1200 meters or so out and everything in between.

Once a rocket hits something, it will blow up.

In previous patches the easiest way to kill a plane by a rocket was to shoot the rocket at the ground right below them. Which worked for ga's and low flyers. The second easiest was blast radius and the hardest was direct hits. Now it seems like the opposite.

i recently pulled off two bomb kills on lanes. quite by luck im sure though lol but i will do this. ive noticed the rockets are extremely hard to aim at long ranges against planes.

I would suggest looking on You Tube for flight video's that players have made on the WOWP IL series planes.

You will be FINE

1200+ meters depending on how fast your going.

Awesome on gt's and incoming head ons, just dont wait too long to fire or you will taste the rocket first. The Tailgunner on the t pays for himself after a few matches.

If your using them to hunt il's then you only have to predict the line to gt's the IL's always take and dive to it getting behind them.If they are heading to a specific gt then you now have the perfect opportunity for a rocket kill by firing at the target he's probably going to bomb and i have never had collateral damage from hitting friendly gt's.

If you see a plane lining you up for a ram,he's lining you up for a rocket kill,be first to fire and if your guns are hitting him your are in range for rockets.a plane lining you up for a kill will fly very steady, thats the secret, fly as steady,no twitching allowed.

Never stop asking questions.

I like to do upside down head on rocket kills...

Which reminds me, I gotta practice that more.

Rocket kills make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside dont know why just do i guess. Once in my 1-16l my record for rocket kills in one battle was 7 but thats only if you count the 2 that were my allies it was pure luck and timing but that epic medal i received is mine all mine regardless if i truly deserved it and cant remember but i think we ended up loosing that battle cause majority my team took some serious blast rash like i really cared though

Here's a video of rocket kills.  Not that some are direct hits, while most are blast radius, or from ground splash.  There's a variety of different shots here, that should give you some idea of the ranges involved, but they ARE rather random at times, and the blast radius/damage ratio changes from patch to patch.

Also, take a look at this video featuring Zigfried (erminger), which showcases both rocket kills AND bomb kills.

THIS is the guy you want to learn from!. (NOTE: due to YouTube muting my soundtrack, here's the video from my Vimeo page)
