Low Population

Hey Servocog!
Good to see you here! The server population is definitely down, and it's not a good thing, but we've been soldiering on for a while like this now. Wargaming hasn't been showing much dedication to developing end-game content, but hopefully that will change soon. They recently split clans apart between World of Tanks and World of Warplanes which is possibly a step towards creating official clan wars over here. If they do that, we should see a considerable uptick in player count.
Cheers!

...but the NA cluster is done for. Two years and three quarters of mismanagement and backpedals and things are like this...now it sinks no more, only stagnate.
The game won't shut down as easily though...there's imagery problem of the World-of Trilogy to think of...

WoWP makes a great jousting game...especially with the 262 and people busy in furballs...
I am deaf, silent, and fly with unrealistic controls. Do not count on me to carry - my back's already broken from overweight.

Yes the game is doing alright. WG has added bots to give a higher target ratio and dispense with the 1 vs 1 matches of earlier patches.
This offset has actually made the game somewhat interesting and more like a console missions game rather than MMO.
"So...just making sure the game will still be up and running." There have been no plans published by WG to shut this game down nor have there been any signs and symptoms.
Now just log on in and join in the fun, mayhem and destruction.
See you in the sky.

The game really sucks with bots. It doesn´t matter if you win or lose, the thrill is gone with bots.
Soon after a new player finds out he is fighting bots, they leave.
All that is left is some veterans and some newbies.
The veterans have been hoping for 3 years that the game will evolve, but patch after patch it got worse.
I can´t blame people left, I am starting to play less and less too. I have the time to play right now, but not the mood.
Is that a good sign WG?

the "pop" is alot better on the EU,and RU servers but that game is in a sad state on the NA servers. That said will it get better? I think so.

From past experience the signs and symptoms are usually clear when a company is winding things down. You are right there have been no clues yet that they are planning a shutdown or to zombie WoWP. Which some might consider odd given the population woes. It's just business as usual here as it's been for years with low pop.

When the game was launched, it honestly wasn't THAT bad. It was very much playable.
Then came two years of broken promises by wargaming to bring us endgame content, clan wars, community tournaments. Most of the people left because of that.

To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.

This.
The problem with the launch of the game was the WG didn't give skilled tankers automatic inclusion as testers from the beginning, and so when the tankers got a chance to play it they weren't anywhere near as good as the existing beta population. This necessitated them running back to the WoT forums and bad-mouthing WoWP to mend their delicate egos. Once enough of them did this the general WoT population wrote it off, and WG lost any shot at the instant free population boom.
This initial failure was compounded many times over the next year, (and the competition from a competing air game was admittedly FIERCE), but the initial shock to the system of less than 1% game to game crossover with WoT began the downward slide.

I think your eye test seems to be a bit skewed by maybe confusing bots for real people. The population of this game has become quite stagnant and is pretty much the same as it was a year ago pre-bots.

Gotta agree with Gouldy. The pop went down on along slide, back up, then back to where it was.
At this point, short of a relaunch with ad support, i don't think anything will change. Special events give a temp +200-400, but it goes right back down.

Looks like Christmas break and Spring break brought some people back...at least for a quick run. LoL

We're the middle child. Tanks is the first-born prodigy and Ships is the new baby.
But in seriousness this played a huge part in the population issue, not just with the WoT players but also players new to WG.net franchises in general. There was so much frustration with controls and the design choices for the gameplay that players new to flight games in general chose not to fight a learning curve alongside the experienced testers who knew the subtleties better.
Add to that a lack of included play diversity (still only one game mode for standard battles), a slow release of maps, and an unforgiving matchmaking algorithm and I wasn't surprised that the general population declined. I myself stopped playing for a good while when matches were predominantly 1 V 1 humans with 7+ bots on each team.
But, to be positive, the game has improved from where it was a year ago.
