I remember the first time I got to first base. Then second base was good. Then I got to third base and was ready for the home base. Home base I was sket sket sket shooting. I love home base.

Was EZP_MRKARP there to help you with that as well? :-)

The way the headquarters could (supposedly) affect AA was interesting, but it was just too tempting to stupid players.  Some would famously rush for the base every single time no matter how much the team pleaded with them to at least wait a minute to let the team gain altitude and regain some boost.

And others would also famously stay behind in their base in a GA aircraft to hunt them down, thus depleting the team of one GA aircraft, which in those times, when superiority counted a single point for aircraft shot down or target destroyed, was many times the difference between victory and defeat. I wouldn't like to see that format again.

I think the base concept could be implemented again in a better way. I'd much rather see a bunch of regional control centers, which are responsible for AA in their respective areas. Take out the building and you reduce effective AA by something meaningful like 50% for the 2 or 3 guns under its control.

I used to play a lot more ga back when I had a crappy computer and when they had bases. I had a love hate with them. It always seemed like some dumb potato in a heavy would Yolo to try and kill the base with his 2 bombs. No matter how you told them not to do it, they would. They would usually die and then [edited]and moan when you didn't cover them, even when you told them you wouldn't cover them if they pulled that crap.

It was especially irritating when I was flying ga's. Some heavy takes out the base then dies, and you don't get the points for the base and now you are down a plane. I used to "accidentally" shoot people in fighters and heavies strafing ground targets when I was in my ga. They usually got the point when I gave them a round or two in their plane. The good thing about the bots is that bot fighters and heavies dont go after ground targets.

Now if they redid the bases, but better and actually reduce the effectiveness of aa to a legitimate point, and stupid people wouldn't yolocaust the base,  that would be much better.

The whole point is to sneak to the base and nuke it without the other team even knowing you are there. A HF dragging half the enemy team behind him toward the base is not only dumb for the HF, it also ruins the day of the sneaky GA plane who was stealthily approaching the base. Not only doesn't he get the HQ points, but now half the enemy team (after killing the HF) is all over him.

Yeah, that is the point, but stupid people in hf's didn't understand the concept. There was never enough compensation to Yolo in an hf. When I played ga, I would hit targets in the way to base, take out base, hit more and see if I could kill any low flying planes. Even in ga's I've been more focused on the win rather than the thunder.

There is only one Base and that is the Ace of Base.  Enjoy.

Their later stuff is good too, but they weren't popular anymore.

I'd like to see something along the lines of what steelman says above.

Anyone know if there is a video out there of a person attacking a base?  I wasn't here when bases were around, would be interesting to see what that was like.

No special looks, they're still there, as many objects, usually the most fortified and highest target value.

Spoiler

basically a Noob in a heavy would load bombs on their plane, tell people to cover them. Proceeded to go straight for enemy base and get killed. Then proceeded to yell at the team because no one covered them, even when we told them we weren't going to cover them if they went straight for the base.

Actually...I've done this in the then tier 5 A6M5 carrying a 250kg all the way to the base...

AA wasn't that vicious back then, even the flimsy A6M5 could make it in and then out...

WoWP makes a great jousting game...especially with the 262 and people busy in furballs...
I am deaf, silent, and fly with unrealistic controls. Do not count on me to carry - my back's already broken from overweight.

Bases should exist in a hypothetical new game mode such as attacking a rival clan's HQ or a new game mode where you escort attack aircraft to take out the enemy base, etc.

Agreed! And I believe killing the base should boost the superority meter enough in regular matches (or reduce AA enough) that the team would allocate resources to defend it.
