Well, after the fiasco with the German week, we would be foolish to not be skeptical. They still seem to be more like exp in a single battle numbers than ground objects destroyed.

No, it is very much total ground targets destroyed.  During the challenge, I was checking the "hall of fame" daily to see the progress.  I knew I did not have a snowball's chance of getting the top position, so I was angling just to make it in the top 5.  It was most certainly ground targets destroyed as the numbers for all of the top 5 were very close to the hall of fame totals for ground targets killed.  Any differences can be accounted for in that the hall of fame totals are not calculated on the same time scale as the challenge.  However, the hall of fame was a very good indicator of who was destroying the most ground targets.  The top 3 players were running around 70+ (and in one case ++ and in another +++) battles per day with probably and average of 6 to 8 (or more) ground targets per battle.

If during the complete time span of the competition you flew a total of, say 120 battles, you were probably destroying the same number of ground targets as the #1 winner did in one day.  That might help give you an idea of the scale of effort that went into winning this challenge.

Note that as the ending day of the challenge fades into the past, the totals on the hall of fame will not reflect what was happening during the challenge.  Since I am not, by nature, a ground pounder, my numbers have decreased with each passing day after the challenge ended, but even over a 4 week period I am still pretty high up (for me) because of the gigantic spike from flying IL's exclusively for a week.

I hope no one will take this as tooting my own horn, but I am trying to set the record straight less for me, but more for the incredible effort of those who came in ahead of me:

Salute to:

seahawk36, megabee, splash5, Piston_proud and all those who tried for the gold.
