"There’s a thin line between being a hero and being a memory"
This week in Aviation History Major James Howell Howard flying his P-51 while escorting three divisions of B-17 Flying fortresses was attacked by more than 30 German aircraft in 1944. He defended the B-17s, and went after the Enemy aircraft. He managed to shoot down at least two German aircraft, and damaged a few more. He continued flying after he had ran out of ammunition and almost out of fuel. He was awarded the medal of Honor for this action.
