I recently did a little test to compare the different types of speed improving equipment and was slightly surprised by the results. I will post what I have concluded about what the equipment REALLY does.

Aircraft polish description- 5% increases to "top speed"

Aircraft polish reality- adds 5% to speeds at all throttle levels. However fast you would be going without it, you will be going 5% faster with it. Acts as you would expect from reduced drag.

Improved aircraft polish description- 5% increase to "maximum airspeed" and 20% increase to dive speed acceleration.

Improved aircraft polish reality- Does not affect your speed unless you are diving or are at your absolute maximum speed. Acts more like a bumped speed governor with gravity boost in a dive.

Engine tuning description- 5% increase to engine power

Engine tuning reality- 5% increase to MAX engine power. Does not affect speed except under boost. you will climb/accelerate faster only on boost, not under normal cruising conditions.

So my conclusion is that the "improved" aircraft polish is not what you would expect it to be. Unless you find yourself diving to flee often, it barely seems worth it if you can put something better in the 3rd slot.

Thanks for the science, you say improved aircraft polish

doesnt increase speed unless at absolute max, did you

find the max airspeed was increased by 5% due to this?

Thanks for pointing all that out!  :great:

Now we just need some Lubricant and we should hit ludicrous speed!!!

Thanks RR90 that's some good information.

I also did an experiment comparing Engine Tuning vs. no equipment.

I flew level at 1000m in a Bf 190B. Engaged flaps and engine idle.  As soon as I hit stall speed I disengaged both and timed how long it took to get up to 350 km/h.

I found that with no equipment mounted on average it took = 25.79 seconds

With Engine Tuning mounted it took = 24.56

The improved polish gives 0 speed improvement. The normal polish is where you will see an improvement.
