I'm getting sick of seeing awesome airplanes and learning that they were gifts from a long-gone mission.  Please add them to the tech tree, or at least make them available to buy Premium!  This isn't unprecedented, seeing that this has already been done with the Meteor and Ha 137.

Edit:  Another player commented that some of these airplanes were rewards for completing very difficult missions.  I wouldn't be opposed to resurrecting some of these missions to give newer players an opportunity to earn them.

Which "awesome" planes are you referring to? Historically speaking gift planes suck, that's why they give them away.

The HA137 was a gift plane. The HA137V1 is in the premium shop. The HA137VI is vastly superior to the gift version.

Me 210 maybe? That would be nice to have (IMHO)

I personally enjoyed my P-31, but I sold it for the hangar slot when I ran out of room.  I did the same with one of the Christmas airplanes (can't remember which one).  I personally would like to see the I-15bis DM (ya know, the ridiculous but still awesome jet biplane) added to the premium shop, along with the Wirraway.  They're not great planes, yes, but I would still like to try my hand at flying them.

I'd love to have an ME210, but I think it would be a travesty to make the Alpha plane available to the general public.

The 110c and the German spit were never a gift planes and both can be purchased right now. I'm not a fan of the German spit at all. I do admit the DO is nice.

Agreed. The Me210 was an alpha tester gift. I'd love to have one too; they were fun in CBT. However, I also hope they never sell them. Alpha, Closed Beta, and Open Beta test gifts should remain exclusive in my opinion.

I do regularly fly my XP-31 for the daily x2 - fun little plane. Shame on you for parting with it and your Christmas plane rather than shelling out for some hangar space.

The I-15bis is a novelty that can be effective in skilled hands, but it really isn't that special. The Wirraway is one of the better mission gift planes they've had. It is pretty maneuverable for an attack plane, has a decent (not OP) TG, wimpy front guns for a GA, and 4x 250lb bombs that are great for bomb killing tailing enemy.

WG did tell us not to sell gift planes or you won't be able to get them back. I've taken WG at their word and kept all of them.

Perhaps someday you'll get your wish with some of them.

:honoring:

I hear ya and I agree. BUT, with that said if I were to go broke and couldn't afford a hangar slot, the XP-77 would be the first to go.

Whiskey, I understand your position. Last year, around these times, I bought a nice little package which included the F11-C along with its equipment and some gold coins. The plane was exclusive for PayPal users (it was a PayPal-only user sale), so I was happy with my F11-C. Then, WG decided to give the plane away about five months later. I didn't regret buying the package for a hefty sum; what I did regret is that the plane was now common in every Tier II battle. I would like to have my hands on an I-15 bis, for example, but as somebody said before, it would be a travesty to now sell that airplane. Gift planes are for missions completed, mostly, like the Do 17, Ha 137, Model 81A, etc. These planes were won by the people who completed missions, sometimes very tough ones. The mission for the Model 81A was to obtain 50,000 base XP in a weekend, for example. Many people couldn't complete it in time so it was extended. Those who completed it in time and completed it once again were awarded a hangar space and the value of the airplane in gold. I would be against WG putting those airplanes for sale in the shop.

Edited to elaborate... Take my ¨P51-K, for example. It's nowhere to be seen in the tech trees (Chinese premium Mustang Tier VII). It was a New Year's sale and not it's nowhere to be found. Honestly, the plane is a good one, comparable to the P51D, and there are not many of them flying around. I'm a collector, aviation is my passion, and I enjoy collecting those planes. I sometimes regret not having the Hurricane IID, for example.

Premium planes that were "earned" in missions include the XP-50, the Ki-88, the Meteor, Yak-3 RD, out of the top of my mind.

Perhaps revive some of these missions then?  I wouldn't be opposed to earning some of these planes.  What really pisses me off is that the opportunity is almost always gone forever.

I don't know if the missions can be revived. But what WG can do is to give away another airplane in future missions.

Like an old airplane awarded for completing a brand-new mission?  Interesting...

What I mean is that the Model 81A, for example, will not come back in a new mission. That boat has sailed long ago. WG recently gave away the Wirraway. Maybe next time in the near future they decide to give a NEW airplane, not seen before, in a new mission.

They often allow you to purchase gift planes during special events. In doing this, they keep people playing waiting for the next special event when they can pay for a new plane they can't have for any other reason. It's basically WG's way of making you beg them to let you give them money. It's a great marketing ploy, and I doubt it will ever change.

A little off topic but is there a comprehensive list of all the WOWP planes anywhere?

The Tech Trees are posted on the main site under the Compare Aircraft tab.  Unfortunately the gift planes don't elaborate on how they were unlocked.

There are some missing, ie Chinese 51. There are some planes listed there that are supertester planes with a gift icon(I think)? There are other supertester planes that I know exist that are not listed.
