Hey guys, can someone direct me to a forum post discussing errors in saved replays? I tried showing my brother a video of a pilot using boom and zoom techniques expertly to show him the concept but the video is 2 months old and I'm worried that it's no longer supported. When I play it I get a BLACKSCREEN and when I play a more recent video it works.

I tried searching the forums myself but I couldn't find anything, just topics about replays and not about errors in replays. If anyone could explain to me what is happening, if there's a fix, link me a forum post, whatever you can it'd be great.

Not sure about patches, but every major update is unable to replay the previous client version. Hence, some will archive their entire client folder before updating in order to play the older replays.

What do I do with the clients? I can't install them, they will over-write the new client!

Don't install in the same location as your game, install each different version in separate locations ( C://Games, C://Games2, etc.)

Don't use the launcher .exe or it will update, it can be removed to avoid accidental updates.

Wargaming, this is really quite asinine. Don't you realise people value their most amazing replays? Losing access to them is  completely unacceptable (no, keeping old versions of the program around is not the answer).

Get your act together, Wargaming!

This is exactly why I always record my favorite replays and save them as MP4s, so that I can go back weeks or months later, no matter what version is up, and edit them for production videos.

Warchylde, I still don't see this as the answer, because now you're just managing the files, and that's not the object of saving replays. But to save the best ones, it would be a lot better than nothing - how do you save to MP4?

I use Razer Gamebooster to record my replays (free download), but there are several programs you can use...Fraps, Bandicam  etc. You start your replay (obviously using the appropriate WoWP client) then start recording. The recording should save as an mp4.

There used to be no saved replay's. Then folks asked for replay's so WG replied with an answer. Unfortunately with out increasing the minimum game requirements it's hard to store several hours of video on your computer from playing this game. The alternative? Save the code traffic between your computer and the server, recreate this traffic when using the replay inside the client to mimic the game, but in fact its a simulated game using your pc game files to recreate the video. Now the game files are feeding your computer the missing information not in the saved replay, literally replaying the game and not playing back a video. This allows us to save 10, 15 minute replays using less than 1 MB in most situations. Resulting in hours of video at very little storage cost.

Unfortunately this means when the client changes the old replays saved code no longer match up to your game files, there for they will no longer work. This is why you are able to open the replay but only get a black screen because there is nothing for the client to perform with out direction.

Can you name some other alternatives besides Razer?

I discovered Shadowplay, a free download for NVidia cards. Better than nothing, but it doesn't compare with WoWP's native replay.
