I think early versions of the Stuka make more sense as multi-role fighters. Later versions were full-on ground assault. I'm guessing Persha will make the entire line GA, though.

The TV series 'Wings of the Luftwaffe' did a good episode on the German Stuka program.

The US led the way early on in Dive Bombing, and interesting point of fact, the first 'German' Stuka (dive bomber) was the Curtis F-11C-2Goshawk Helldiver.

2 of these were given to Ernst Udet, who later pioneered Germany's Dive Bomber program. A stunt pilot, he also flew one of these at the 1936 Olympics.

From the Helldiver, Germany went to make it's own. The Henshel-123, Arado-95 are a couple of the pre-Ju-87 Stukas it mentions.
