is there any way to map the fire key to the triggers, as was possible before?

Yes,  but you need to use Xpadder which is an application that allows you to do this for any game.

Xpadder allows you also to put Fire and Airbreak on the Triggers at the same time, which WG did not even allow you to do before.

You can get Xpadder for free from various sources, or download it from their site for the $10.

paying 10$ for a secondary program just to run a feature that was already in the game seems counter intuitive

I'm ok with the triggers not being enabled for shooting.. there are plenty other buttons (not axis) to configure for shooting. What i don't like is the fact that just a few options are enabled for gamepad. For example, why not allowing the rudder to be configured in one of the axis? or why not allowing for gamepad users to group guns in different buttons?

You can do it all with Xpadder.

Feel your pain.

Before they changed the controls schemes all of that worked like that.

Now not so much.

really? then tell me how i can get the triggers on a xbox one elite controller to control yaw (keeping the variable control) in the joystick mode. i have xpadder and the proper xbox drivers, windows 10, everything. i can map every button i want using joystick scheme and works PERFECT.... exspect for rudder/trigger button mapping.

you cannot do it all. you cannot use both triggers for rudder with the same control
