It has been 13 years since that horrible day with the loss of humanity. The victims are remember today from that horrendous act. Today is my part in remembering a field in Shanksville, PA. A field that has yet to get its site memorial completed due to funding. Granted the field is not part of a major city or a military facility, however it too should not be forgotten on this day. :honoring:

The phrase "Let's roll" has been used by me ever since that day as part of my pre-mission briefs to my Soldiers.  I say it right after our prayer.  We all then load up and conduct whatever mission we have been tasked to do.  It's our unofficial tribute to those brave souls.  There are none braver than them.  Bravery is action in spite of fear.

All the patriotic hoopla and solemnity aside.

The thing that is often overlooked is that on September 11, 8 months after GWB became President the US was not prepared to defend itself, not just against terrorist in hi-jacked airliners, but by anyone at all.

If it had been Japan's Kido Butai had lauched air strikes against Washington and New York City instead of the hijacked airliners, the results would have probably been the same.

On Sept 11, the USAF, US Navy and Marine Corps did not have any armed aircraft ready to launch.

They would have been forced to to what they did on 9/11/2001, send unarmed fighters to defend the nation by having the pilots crash their jets into the enemy aircraft.

So Air Force One needed an escort, the F-16 that escorted was armed only with the pilots willingness to turn her aircraft into a human guided missile.

DICTA BOELCKE for WoWP
    1. Try to secure the upper hand before attacking.
    2. Always continue with an attack you have begun
    3. Open fire only at close range, and then only when the opponent is squarely in your sights
    4. You should always try to keep your eye on your opponent, and never let yourself be deceived by ruses
    5. In any type of attack, it is essential to assail your opponent from behind
    6. If your opponent dives on you, do not try run away from his attack, but fly to meet it
    7. When over the enemy's lines, always remember your own line of retreat
    8. It is better to attack in groups of four or six. Avoid two aircraft attacking the same opponent
