How would you estimate the general setup of teams created by the Improved?

The Improved Matchmaker is available on the Public Test server. The Improved Matchmaker should provide better balance in the number of flights per team, flexible algorithms in selecting the types and tiers of planes on both teams in battle, and a fix for the problem of frequent creation of battles with no mid-tier planes. Let us know what you think!

In the handful of matches I was in the MM did a good job.  One of the matches was even 2v2, and it gave both teams one GA and one light fighter. 

Dreaming of better days.  When this game had full matches, fiery dogfights, and hope for the future.

Not sure if this is a low population quirk, but I seemed to be paired with the same guy twice in a row in a 1 v 1 battle.  This is despite that there were several pilots in the same tier queued up.

not enough people playing.

 

Tried solo and flighting up .. and the logic right now doesn't make any sense.

 

Solo I was in a tier VII with 1 other person .. Tier VI was populated 8 players... VIII's had 4,  what does the match maker do?

it pulled only the 6's and left the tier VIII and VII's alone..  time wise we were all in queue at the same time.


Guess what happened next? the 8's got pulled by themselves and then the VI's by themselves.

 

Flighted it up it gets worst.. But I honestly think its a population issue on the test server. I am hoping it doesn't get as pronounced on the live server.

It's nearly impossible to tell anything about MM from the very low test server pop, just like it was for 1.4 when everything looked fine until it went live.

 

I've already gotten one 1v1 match at tier 8 too.  I hope that's not another bad omen.

Unable to test properly due to such high spread of tiers with such a small number of players.

 

Edited about an hour after original post comments.

 

MM is IMO screwed up when there is low population, worse on CT then on live, sit in que with 9 others for 5 minutes waiting, then get stuck in a 4-v-4 T-IV fight. There were also 10 sitting in T-V as well as 6 in T-III, combined it would have been in battle faster with a better battle due to more planes. 4-v-4 is not fun since you spend half the fight flying around looking for the other team. Even a 10-v-10 of T-IV and T-V would be preferable.

 

In the battles I've been in so far the team make up seems pretty good, though it seems premiums are all being put on the same team, had a battle with a Model-81-A, 2x Bf.110C-6, 2x Ki-43's, and a LBSH on 1 team, other team had 2x I-16(L), 2x Bf.110B, a P-36, and a BSH. (Didn't think to screenshot it and forgot to turn on replays since EU account does not have replays enabled) otherwise team make up seems pretty even.

 

Not seen any flights at all yet.

Weird situation I ran into....

 

In a tier 4 match......

The que showed that there were 12 players in Tier 4....

 

the que "pops"..... it's a 2vs2 at tier 4.....

We set in that que for over 6 minutes....

 

Now the players seemed to be matched fairly evenly.....but if the long wait times are what we will see here on the NA server...

Expect more griping....

 

however.... this seems to be a step in the right direction....

I have had three battles where there were four or more people of the same tier waiting and it put me into a battle with one person on each side. We were the same tier so it was an even match just strange to be one on one.

I'm thinking the queues for both modes are combined, so the actual number of players in the queue for your mode is not being represented.

Yeah, seems like it.  It's confusing and misleading too when you're stuck sitting in queue for one mode with plenty of people at the appropriate tiers and nothing happens.

1.5 MM is much better in terms of balance in plane types, tiers. Although couldn't put much input in Flights since the CT population is kind of low. 2-tier spreads are no longer a frequent Que match up. Infact its been reduced a lot in terms of frequency in trade for smaller balanced 1-tier spread battles.

 

But I'll take long Ques and small battles over 2-tier spreads and skewed planes + flights any day.

 

Nice MM fix WG. Definitely a step in the right direction. Now all you need to do is pump the population for NA up (2k-3k+) so it can support this new MM.

I think the MM might be trying too hard. I entered the queue and was the only tier 4 and shortly there after 2 tier 5 entered. A minute into the wait, four more tier 4's entered the queue. About ten seconds later 4 of the tier 4's and the 2 tier 5 aircraft were gone, I assume into battle, and I was still waiting after being there the longest of all of them. After 4 more minutes I finally got picked to fight. I have also had the pleasure of a couple of 1 v 1 and 2 v 2 when there were more of the same tier available. I will say though, the battles it has gotten right were almost perfectly matched.

What I really LOVE about the new MM is it's not so hell-bent on getting 30 aircraft into battle.

 

6 v. 6 or 8 v. 8 battles within the same tier instead of 15 v. 15 with a two or three tier spread has been GREAT.

 

Also, far too often, I see one or two (un-flighted) planes on the wrong end of a three-tier battle. It seems they're just there to make it 30. What purpose does that serve? I hope the new MM puts an end to it.

I waited 7 minutes and got placed into a 1v1 battle with my XP-50 vs a La-5. Another time, I waited 6 minutes and got a 1v1 with my P-38J vs an IL-2(t). I have had several instances where it would take 1/2 or 3/4 quarter of the group in the same tier and leave the others even when there were an even number and it could've been 3v3 or 4v4. This probably won't matter much once it goes live onto the NA server where there or more players. I have had a couple of good 1v1 battles: P-38J vs P-38J and Yak-1M vs P-39Q. I do think it'll sort itself out on the more populated servers... maybe.
