+1, very happy with 2nd. The winning bulldog is a great emblem. There were a lot of really good ones submitted, several that  would look great in-game.

p.s. The winner's article doesn't say which place my fish design came in. I wasn't paying attention how much gold was in my account so I can't tell via math. Mod, please ellaborate.

I don't believe gold has been distributed yet.

But I would also like to see the full list of winners and runners up to see where I placed.

Thnaks for the contest!

Why weren't all of the gold winners' emblems shown?  It would be nice to see all the winning art.  You could at least have shown all of the winning emblems.

I wasn't even notified that I won.  I just all of a sudden see more gold on my account.  You can't notify the winners by e-mail?

Winning players should be acknowledged on the website, especially considering all the hard work that was put into it.

This contest was poorly run from the beginning.    :sads:

Well, I would like everyone to see my entry, so here it is:

Quote

Inspired by the book “A Higher Call” by Adam Makos, this emblem blends elements from the WWII experience of one of the book’s main characters, Franz Stigler.  Franz Stigler was a German World War II ace pilot who flew in the African and Western European theatres.  One encounter with a ravaged B-17 bomber on its way back to England is what forms the core event of the story.

Raised as a Catholic, Franz loved aviation from the start, and joined the flying club that his father and family priest formed.  Having flown thousands of hours before the war, Franz becomes an instructor for the Luftwaffe and finally joins its ranks as revenge for the death of his brother at the hands of the Allies.  After joining his first squadron in Africa, Franz comes to learn of the brotherhood of the veteran pilots and their own core ethos that guides their actions.

The veteran cadre of the Luftwaffe believed themselves to be knights of the air and likened themselves to the Teutonic Knights of old with a code of honor that governed how they acted and flew.  One example was their vow to never shoot a pilot in his parachute.  The Luftwaffe veterans hated the Nazis, and they defied the immoral directives given by its supreme commander, Hermann Goering.  Franz took all these ideals to heart.

Initially driven to obtain the Knight’s Cross (awarded for 40 kills), Franz’ goal becomes to simply protect the homeland and fight with honor as championed by the veteran aces with whom he flew.  This drives Franz’ actions as he encounters a torn apart B-17 on its return flight from a bombing run.  On approach to the aircraft, Franz could have dispatched the plane easily.  However, he waits to see if the tail gunner will attempt to defend, but the gun is limp.  He checks the waist gunners, but they, too, are silent.  The top turret?  Silent also.

Unable to destroy a plane that cannot defend itself, Franz draws his plane along side the cockpit of the bomber to ascertain the situation.  He finds a ravaged crew scared for their lives.  In this instance, Franz decides to escort the B-17 over Germany’s own flak guns to be sure the plane can survive long enough to get home (the AA gunners hold their fire for fear of shooting down one of their own).

This very un-Nazi-like act of chivalry is recounted with great celebration many decades later by the crew of that B-17.  For in his chivalry, Franz allows the crew to live, have children and grandchildren and share this truly remarkable story.  The reunion of the B-17 crew and Franz Stigler leads to many hugs and tears as they recount the encounter so many years ago.

The emblem blends elements of the squadrons for which Franz flew, his Catholic background, and his ideals of chivalry from the days of the Teutonic Knights.  The red shield and bear are from JG-27 (in fact, this Luftwaffe unit had a live bear as a mascot!).  The checkerboard is from the ME-262 group, JV-44, the “Squadron of Aces” (otherwise known by Goering as “Galland’s Circus) started by none other than general Adolf Galland.  Franz not only flew for JV-44 but helped lead it.
Finally, the cross represents Franz’ Catholic past (which he never fully embraced), the Teutonic Knight order, and the German Knight’s Cross (for which Franz qualified but never received).  Franz Stigler flew the BF-109F, BF-109G, and the ME-262.  This logo would be available for all three planes and would represent the player’s commitment to gallantry, honor, and good sportsmanship.
