I think I actually prefer the 20mm.  While the damage is only half that of the 37, the rate of fire is so much greater (4x more!).  I think if the 37 actually had a negative impact on the planes flight characteristics, people would just stick with the 20.  Think about the Buffalo - if those 20mm wing guns didn't negatively impact its performance, everyone would go with them without even thinking about it.

Your also leaving out it has better range and accuracy quite frankly I consider "derping" with large caliber cannons a art form it is much much much harder to hit with them they over heat quickly and often have worse range so why would you use that?  The ability to one hit OK a enemy anything above a 30mm has a change to break a wing or tail in one shot the proper way to derp is to shoot something that doesn't see it coming if you want to dog fight use the 20mm.

I am not knocking the 37 at all, I think its a matter of preference.   My only point is that I think some people default to the 37mm since it is listed as the "top" gun, but that 20mm has some things to recommend it as well.

Dreaming of better days.  When this game had full matches, fiery dogfights, and hope for the future.

Maybe that's easier to understand sorry if I wasn't clear I was saying they both have uses and the 37mm is the harder of the two to make it work.

Ah, okay, yes, I misunderstood you.  We do agree!  Thank you for clarifying.  (-:

Were you 10 feet off the ground? lol it has a very big loss in performance and really low altitudes, and was your plane damaged or you pilot not 100%? tail, wings, fuselage, hurt pilot all these things slow turn rate in my last game the IL-10 vastly out turns the IL-8 and day of the week but with a hurt pilot and a damaged tail I was being out turned.

And are you using flaps?

I use flaps only in the turns, otherwise I fly with the flaps up.

Pilot is at 90%, plane was undamaged at the time.

Altitude, at the bottom of the optimum altitude range.

E-state was about co-equal with the Me.

DICTA BOELCKE for WoWP
    1. Try to secure the upper hand before attacking.
    2. Always continue with an attack you have begun
    3. Open fire only at close range, and then only when the opponent is squarely in your sights
    4. You should always try to keep your eye on your opponent, and never let yourself be deceived by ruses
    5. In any type of attack, it is essential to assail your opponent from behind
    6. If your opponent dives on you, do not try run away from his attack, but fly to meet it
    7. When over the enemy's lines, always remember your own line of retreat
    8. It is better to attack in groups of four or six. Avoid two aircraft attacking the same opponent

P-38J:

Great looking pair of Lightnings you have there, Topsight.

The P-38F makes me hear the theme to "Team America: World Police" whenever I look at it.  I have mine painted the exact same way, save for the "Beta" symbol instead of "Rowdy".

The P-38J just looks straight-up wicked with the "Widowmaker" paintjob.  Added bonus: The control surfaces are all blood red.

Thanks...and very soon they will have the Eagle Squadron crest, which are in the hands of the master maker at the moment. I'm lucky, my wife is a 20 year graphic artist. She made the crest, based on what I wanted.

If I had a black Trans-Am...I would totally put that on the hood.
