TO be historically correct I use Metric in planes that were using the metric system.  Do you think the me109 had Feet markers in it?  If you were flying one you would simply need to think in metric.

Conversely, historically correct US planes used Feet.

I would imagine this would have been a true-to-life problem for any British pilot that was put in a P-51.  Do you think they changed out the gauges for him or did he just need to understand how much petrol he had by converting gallons to liters and meters to feet.

Stretch the brain and convert your system often.

Its good for you.

As a US Army veteran I think of everything in terms meters.

Fact: Real Aviation use these measurements -

Altimeter Height: Feet

Speed: Knots

Vertical Speed: Ft per min

Horizontal Distance: Metres or Km

Vertical Distance: Metres or Km

Heading: Degrees magnetic

Barometric Pressure: Millibars

Even the Limiting speeds for Gear and flaps are measured in knots. Heck Aviation Gasoline Fuel is measured in Litres. But that may depend on which country you come from.

Forget about the difference in Metric or the Imperial System. That only applies to standard measurements. Aviation is another story. And that's where WG got it wrong with this game. The most probable reason why WG resorted to such standard measurements is because people are generally more familiar with these everyday measurements compared to actual Aviation measurements, and so hence forth we have KPH or MPH for speed and Feet or Metres for Height and if you choose the imperial sysem, all distances will be in Feet, which is rather odd for someone who's been educated to learn the Metric system and quite frankly Imperial is just old fashioned. But who am I to judge an old system.

But hey if your good at converting different measurements, there's nothing to worry about. This issue is but a speck of dust compared to the other crap you have to deal with in real life aviation like the infamous Airspace laws.

Good, ArrowZ. Perhaps there should be a 3rd "game" setting to use the actual system used in aviation, as you posted. Or, even a WWII historical setting, true to each nation. Wulf
