Ace Combat 2. Air Combat 22 was my 2nd. Then there's AC 4, AC 5, ACX, AC 6 and AC 3.

Red Baron 1

Wait cant be Red Baron, it came out in 1990 and I know I played others before that.  I just can not remember off the top of my head.  Now looking at the lists Combat Flight Simulators started around 1989.

So, I have to say Red Baron 1 was my first back in 1990.  I remember it because we were living in California when I played Red Baron and I did not move to NY till Summer of 1992.

Just for the heck of it,

1st Chopper Sim - LHX Attack Chopper

1st Tank Sim - Panzer Elite

1st Space Sim - Wing Commander 1

1st Mech Sim - MechWarrior 1

1st Submarine Sim - 688 Attack Sub

Fun thing was that my father worked for Norton Computers on the side while he was in the USAF.  Norton Computers went to a lot of computer shows, so I got to go to everyone of those computer shows and played many games back then, since Norton Computers also sold PC video games.  What was also fun was that Norton Computers would interface the PC to a 32 in TV (yea the old heavy TVs) on top of a 7 ft cabinet, which then they would let me play the new games at the time to "advertise" them to the potential buyers in the computer show.

First one I actually played was Jane's series of games. Just about all of them, of which my favorite is USAF.

World of Warplanes!!! :veryhappy:
"It is generally inadvisable to eject directly over the area you just bombed."
"The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire."
The three most common expressions (or famous last words) in aviation are: "Why is it doing that?", "Where are we?" And "Oh S...!"
"Airspeed, altitude and brains. Two are always needed to successfully complete the flight."
Flying isn't dangerous. Crashing is what's dangerous.

Chuck Yeager's Air Combat back in 1991 I think, at least it is the first one I remember playing, (MSDos 5.0 anyone?)

Now thinking he/she did say Warplane type game, so yeah the old 2d top down scrollers that had planes would count too.

Funny thing is I think my 1st for that would have been 1941 also.

A fav of mine. I still have the VHS tape that came with it of combat footage. Also played F-15 Strike Eagle. probably around the same time.

Sorry went off a little on this, had a bunch of good memories thought it would be fun to share

f-117A 1991!

blazing away at 66mhz or 33 mhz with turbo off (why did they have those switches anyway)my computer which i think had less memory than one of my ram sticks kept me entertained for hours during the winter. i would attack tripoli over and over going around shooting planes down (thinking back, that thing was way too good at dog fighting NERF).

followed by

X-wing and the tie fighter series (sort of planes)

wwiionline (loved the game all around but it was a little too much work and the 109 had a barn door for a rudder, loved the FW)

il-2 and that line (guys i met in wwiionline would hold training on this learned so much... wish i showed up more than i did)

took a pretty long break then found this and i can get my angle fix :D

great thread loved reading about all those games i missed, going to go and look them up.

Sierra Entertainment's A-10 Tank killer and Red Baron on a combo disc.. back when I was about two to three years old. Yeah, I started flying and began forming my understanding the art quite early. (I won't mention the day I managed to somehow get into system code and blow up the computer.. requiring my dad to reinstall everything from the OS and up. Win 95.)

Then a number of years later.. got a good grip and started CFS, followed by CFS 2 and eventually CFS 3. Plus tons of other little arcady flying games on the likes of the Sega Genesis, N64, Sega Dreamcast, original Xbox. Umm. That can get off topic real quick. Lots of fun memories though.
