So, I've got enough experience on the I-16(e) to move up to the next tier...I love that plane but it just has so few hit points.

But anyway, what's the best direction to go...with the I-17, or the I-16(l)?

I like the I-16L, because the I-17 is a bit of a grind.

Personally, the I-17 was one of my favorite planes. However, I would recommend you go for the I-16 (l) because you can always choose to go up the yak line later from the LaGG-3.

The LaGG-3 is a bit of a dog though (apparently the Yak-1 is even worse)

In saying that, the I-16(l) is just the I-16(e)'s bigger badder brother, flies pretty much the same. Turn and BURN!

Suffer through the I-16(l) and Lagg-3 to get to the La-5 and La-7.

Those are great planes, or will be again in 1.1 I hope.

I was never wild about the Yaks. The big cannons are good for lols when they connect, but that's about the only redeeming factor of the line.

Take the LaGG-3 path to the heavy Yak...if you want the light Yak, just take the I-17.

...or take both, one at a time, and get Yak-7 from LaGG-3 to conclude.

Go back to the I-5 on tier one and train your pilot some more, Once you have 200 battles in your I-5 then jump into the I-16(l ) once that is elited then jump to the I-17 until it is is elited.

That is of course what I am doing, not everyone has to do it.

I'd take the LaGG with its 23mm cannon over the Yak-7 anytime...with the Yak-1 it's a tossup, but Yak-1 and LaGG-3 are different beasts.

...the I-17 is horrendous in ergonomics, though...dat enclosed space...BTW the I-16L is much easier to handle than I-17 for newbies, plays just like I-16E with much more firepower if opt for ShVAK, which it gets two.

or faster and more maneuverable with a slight tradeoff* in firepower with the dual 7.62's and the 12.7.

*or if like me you only ever ran the quad ShKAS setup on the (e), you get a plane that is faster, almost (its a very small difference) as maneuverable, with better firepower

If I want something with quad ShKAS, I'd go play my I-15DM-2.

The added sheer damage of the 12.7 in the Early mod often give me the edge I need in combat, and it 'stabilizes' the plane somewhat, as I find the roll rate with just the ShKAS a bit extreme.

I like the guns on it. They can chew through almost anything that gets in its way! :playing:

"It is generally inadvisable to eject directly over the area you just bombed."
"The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire."
The three most common expressions (or famous last words) in aviation are: "Why is it doing that?", "Where are we?" And "Oh S...!"
"Airspeed, altitude and brains. Two are always needed to successfully complete the flight."
Flying isn't dangerous. Crashing is what's dangerous.

They're both good and playing each will help you decide if you want to have firepower or agility (each has some, one has more than the other).

I like the I-16 (l.) because that thing can turn on a dime if ya do it right, but it is fragile so stay twitchy.
