I have severe FPS issues with this hardware, and was wondering if it is too old to run this game:

Hello WOWP forums! I have a question, as stated in the title, regarding my hardware. I run this game using max resolution on a Samsung monitor, originally intended for use as a TV. I use an AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core processor 4600+. As may be noted, this processor is capable only of 2.41 GHz. My RAM is 3.00 GB. My graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce GT 640, driver version 320.11. I use a 64-bit version of windows. Now, my FPS. It starts in a battle at typically 24fps, which goes down to 10-14 fps when fighting other planes. It will also have dips, typically on water maps and especially on Pacific Ocean, to only about 5fps. Is my hardware, especially my CPU, too old for the game, or is this just random?

Your CPU is old and your graphics card is not really a gaming card.
There will not be too much you can do in the way of performance unless, you either upgrade your rig or you run everything on the lowest settings to see if that helps.

Agreed.
You don't need a really an expensive rig to run high graphics settings.
This is only a 4 core AMD but it runs at 3.9Mhz with a 7950 video card. Never lower than 44 FPS with everything on high except tree, shadow quality and motion blur disabled.
My 6 core machine running the same card sucks as it only runs at 2.4 (2.8 overclocked) and chokes in some situations down to 7-8 FPS

It's definitely your CPU causing the biggest bottleneck, and perhaps the RAM as well. I have a machine (work computer) with an i3-2100 3.1 GHz dual core with 4 GB RAM and a GT 640 and I can run it just fine on medium settings in the 30-60 fps range.

OP, your computer just about meets the specs.  However, the specs sometimes never tell the tale.  You might want to try the update coming in a few hours and see if you can increase your FPS and overall game play by using the lowest settings possible.  If that doesn't work, then you might have to start thinking about updating you hardware to play this great game.  Good Luck.

The cmd line I was using no longer works, so I have to go into task manager select the WOWP process and set the priority to high(careful here, this could crash your system!) and set the affinity to both cores in my case. (or 3 of 4 cores for others) Also turn off any unneeded programs.

Well, thanks for the replies. I'll see what I can get my hands on. As a note, when I updated my graphics card and indirectly my cpu (long story) earlier this summer, I enjoyed a massive performance boost to the game. Recently my typical playing session has been at least 5 hours long, I love this game!

This is to SkyWolf__WM,

I have a 6 core AMD processor as well. The problem with that is this game engine is optimized for single core support, not multithreading.

The game could care less about cores....it needs pure processor speed. My i3 3.2 dual core runs the game much better than my 2.8 ghz quad core. Graphics card update will help a bit...but in the end, the bottleneck seems to be processor speed for this game.
