The gift plane is a real skirmish beast. The maneuverability of the biplane setup and insane boost rate of the twin DM-2 jet engines make this plane a hilarious treat to fly. While it is severely under gunned for a tier 3 craft if it had more firepower it would be overpowered. It forces people to find fights in progress and dive in to unload before streaking away. Against anything head on it is torn to pieces in short order as expected. The balance feels good because it is not overpowered compared to other tier 3 planes.

Actually I think the guns are great on the DM-2.  I've gotten multiple 7+ kills as well as seen many others do it.  The plane turns like no other.  In the right hands it's beast

I don't find the guns underpowered at all.  In fact, the punch this little plane has is it's best aspect in my opinion.  It is a bit too fragile for a tier III plane though.

Why do I get the feeling the threads on this plane should be added to the drinking game?

Whats with you and drinking?

I dont think the guns are underpowered at all...but as Jareth said, it is very fragile. I have taken down BF110's with this little devil quite easily, as well as P36's and BF109's.

Another 50 HP and this thing would be unstoppable

It's fragile because even though it's a tier III, it's still an I-15 which is a tier II.

I don't remember when the CBT stuff regarding this plane still falls under the NDA we're contracted to so I'll hold off until I have clarification whether or not it can be mentioned.  But until then I will say that even adding a few hit points would overpower this plane.  Even just bringing it up to the I-16 early would be a bit much.

The reasons are the guns and ramjets and biplane pitch rate.
1.  The guns, even though they're 7.62, are four of the best 7.62 MGs currently in the game.  They're the only 7.62 MGs that can kill a tier V heavy fighter.  Improve the toughness and this plane could kill anything with a tail gunner wuthout a care in t he world.
2.  The ramjets allow the plane to continue to boost even after suffering engine damage.  Right now, damaging the engine usually takes at least half the health pool in the process.  Allow it to take more damage and it'd just become a berserker plane.
3.  Like most extremely maneuverable planes, low HP values are a way to balance them out.  If they could take as much damage as they could dodge, there'd be no reason to not see a them go with huge win ratios.

Wargaming 15th birthday gift.
AFAIK you can't get it anymore unless it comes back next year or something.

Was the DM-2 supposed to be a premium plane? Mine doesn't show as premium in the hanger.

Gift planes aren't available for purchase period. Hence why they're gifts.

I like premium vehicles that still hold their own in some way or another, the kinds of premium vehicles I want to play, like the I-15 DM-2.
In contrasting playstyle, the Me 210 is pretty cool too.

One of the best low tier fighters... a blast to fly. It dishes out a serious tail kicking with its abilities. A real keeper.

Yeah, if you can keep the guns on target it has a huge Heat pool so you can keep the trigger held down for a long time you just wont see those huge HP jumps you get with cannons hitting someone in the cockpit.

Its a nice little plane, and once you get used to its characteristics you can do very well in battles, I cant wait till 5.1 so I can throw my almost 3 skill I-16e crew into it for training and more tier 3 stomping.

This thing is a Beast and here is some reasons why.
1: it is not available anymore so it is kinda cool for that
2: it is highly maneuverable and to the point where I kept about 3-4 tier 4's wheeling around for 2 minutes and taking no damage.
3: it could technically be technically counted as a tier 3 jet
4: the flames that come out of the ramjets when you boost make it look like "props?? Ain't nobody got time fo dat!!!"
5: it is. Good reason.

I don't think you will be able to (at least from what they're saying about it at the moment) but there MAY be a different gift plane for anyone who plays open beta. I dunno but it seems you may have missed out on a real beast there.

Yeah, I just missed the 15th anniversary and I'm kind of jelly! :)  These guys are the only T-III Planes that really scare me, even in a T-IV or higher plane I try to prioritize them for kills since they're so hard to get in your sights and if you screw up they'll eat you for lunch!
The is a signature.

They actually die pretty easily, but if they are a perfect example of a fun plane..  Very nimble, decent firepower, and a little crunchy if anyone can actually hit you...

I am trying to learn to fly this before Go Live. I like how the jets light up when you boost. Nice design detail! Wulf

I don't think anyone could say it better. DM-2 is awesome and it's the very definition of 'glass cannon' - doesn't take much at all to knock one down.

I have been put in T-5 battles and although outgunned and outpaced by T-4s+5s nothing could match it in a turning fight.Great Plane.
