Hello Pilots!
We want to hear your feedback! In addition to answering the poll above, we would like your feedback on the categories below:
Battles played - How many games have you flown in this plane?
Plane balance - please explain why you think this plane is overpowered, underpowered, or balanced. Give specific reasoning like firepower, turn rates, climb speed, etc., that contribute to the planes balance.
Historical accuracy - please note any specific characteristics that make this plane unique historically and what things may be missing from that would better reflect the capabilities of the plane.
Power curve - How does the plane feel stock vs. fully upgraded?
Adjustment recommendations - Explain any recommendations you have to balance this plane and why.
Additional notes - Anything else you have to say about this plane that doesn’t fit in another section above. Include any tactics or uses that may have been overlooked by other players.
Cheers!

let's see

354 battles played and I have elited it

I believe this plane to be slightly underpowered when fully upgraded, before that however, there are serious problems. Stock, the plane has nice firepower and good maneuverability, but the airspeed suffers, especially vs the tier 8 jets. In addition this plane has terrible performance at high altitudes, being outperformed by nearly all the other fighters (excluding the IJN and Yak fighters)  (though you can turn fight with German light fighters sometimes due to their poor turning performance (smart ones won't let you though)). However, the top engine (the rocket engine) for this plane does wonders for it's short term speed, letting you engage jets after they try to BnZ you by quickly turning and boosting. While jets are still difficult to deal with, you have a chance, whereas before they would be too far away and going too fast for you to catch up to after you completed your turn.

Historical accuracy? I know very little about the real plane, but I do know that rockets do not suffer from preformance degradation in high atmosphere, so I am curious if you model the two different sources of thrust (with the prop engine performance and boost not working as well in high atmosphere, but the rocket boost component staying mostly the same throughout all atmosphere densities).

power curve: As stated before, the plane is very lackluster before the final engine. I did not have much fun playing it without the rocket engine, much of the time was spent dodging BnZ jets and trying to put some kind of meager damage on them before they got away. With the rocket engine, however, it is one of my favorite planes to fly, as the power of the boost is extremely satisfying. Being able to keep up with a jet for a short periods and just makes you laugh at their pain as they try to get away from you. The other upgrades seem reasonable in terms of power curve

The adjustments coming in the 1.1 patch seem to be the right idea, the few games that I have played in it on the test server, I have done much better than on the live server. I am not sure if these fix the power curve (or if the power curve is intentionally steep, as the top engine is optional (and expensive to research)) as I have not done extensive analysis while playing on the test server.

Additionally, the rocket engine boost seems to maintain speed pretty well when doing a extremely steep climb, so if you are moving at a good clip (>600km/h), you can climb a couple km straight up while boosting

P.S. The La-9 is tier 8 now, you might want to fix the thread title.
