I always liked steampunk as a subgenre of sci-fi. You can't get more alternative history than these:

Nice images. my only concern with sharing them is that it may leave the web sight wide open to copyright infringement accusations.

Could you actually imagine warfare, if technology had actuallly gone that way, instead of the way it went?  Awesome nonetheless.

Because...

A: those ships are more like floating...

B: The planes do not have the range to fly around for as long as those ships can... (since they float)

C: Basically the same reason why we use sea-based aircraft carriers...

Iv always been a big fan of the airships from the Final Fantasy series. The Blackjack from FF6 was my most favorite seeing how it was the first of the series I played back when Sony PlayStation was just a twinkle in someones eye. Of course that series has turned to crap and as such so have their ideas of an airship :(.

If you were looking for the A-Team I am sorry to inform you that you found the F Troop.

How would I know who created these? I just googled them. From my experience on the internet over the last 15 years, I believe there is no copyright infringement if you just link to the original image (like I did). If it was not the case, then many many many forums would seize to exist (including WoT forum  <_<)

The fourth image is artwork from the Iron Grip series.  The airships belong to the Rahmos faction:

Too bad there's not an Iron Grip air combat game.  One can only hope...

There is an Iron Grip Marauders F2P game on Steam. It's not an air combat game, but I am giving it a try. I am always open to new games universes.

This one is from War Of The Worlds: Goliath, a direct-to-DVD animated movie

Omg, that is awesomely impractical.

If you're going to be building something bellowing out that much smoke, why not funnel it out behind you? After all, the reason why ships had those large smoke stacks was because of the slow speed it really needed for wind to pick it up. With an airplane, you could just bend those smoke stacks backwards and get the same effect. An even better effect actually because now you have less wind resistance.

Me too. Behind Ace Combat, it had the most room for story development and awesomeness. The original Crimson Skies is still one of my favorite games. It touched an alternate era of aviation most people don't concern themselves with and it was, quite frankly, amazing.

I recognize the last one at least.  Keith Thompson did the concept art for Iron Grip.  Coincidentally, I used one of his tank-robot concepts to make a signature for other forums including WoT.

Last Exile also has some good steam-punkish kinds of designs.

http://4.bp.blogspot...anship-full.jpg

The new series is a bit more 'modern' so it's not as steampunkish anymore

http://www.alafista....ship-completed/

At that point it's getting more into "dieselpunk" than steampunk though.

This one's modeled after a US Standard-type Battleship--most likely a Pennsylvania-class. And is therefore awesome.
